A true Parisienne, Jeanne Briand studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris where she developed her artistic practice through multiple projects and disciplines.
Her work passionately seeks to combine new technologies with craft techniques and her process explores the relationship between the natural and synthetic. For her first project she blew glass sculptures of uteruses to form the basis and origin of her personal art and expression.
On her first artistic awakenings Jeanne remembers her home, "In the house where I grew up, my father collected Amazonian headdresses and I, on my side, used to build small altars for everything I found and wanted to keep”. Symbolic expressionism long being a part of Jeanne’s life, her first real awakening was when she discovered the work of South Korean artist, Lee Ufan. The simplicity and strength intrinsic to his work inspired her to say “I want to do that” and we’re so glad it did!
If you’re in Belgium over the coming months be sure to check out Jeanne's upcoming exhibition Prox·im·i·ty' solo show at Super Dakota Gallery, Brussels and Villa Belleville opening on December 14th ('Wanderer above the sea of fog' curated by Marion Flament & Charlotte Gautier).
We had the pleasure of shooting Jeanne at her studio/home where she wears our Amazon Green Kimono Dress and our Fuchsia Ren Jumpsuit both pieces in Silk.
